Schnauzer memories
Last night when I got home from work Penda was in one of his playful moods. He is usually right there to jump around and get attention from me as I walk through the door. Pretty much like you guys used to do when I came home. I try to play with him a little by stomping my feet and acting like I am going to touch his butt - or get his tail. He then does this spin out on the wood floor which sounds really funny now since there is no carpet on it, actually he does sort of spin out at times. Then he hops from side to side and when I bend to get his tail he runs very quickly under the table - under the chairs where I can't get him. If I take the game to the next level I bend down and try to get him under the table and then he runs around the table and shoots up the stairs or down the stairs and around and around the furniture -usually hoping from side to side and doing his little barking. A lot of noise, spinning and Baba jo stomping her feet - he normally wins the game by running past me as I come down the stairs and he runs upstairs - knowing full well I am not going to reach under the bed to get him. All of this reminds me of a story Grandpa White told me about his dog when he was a kid. His story stemmed from watching Freeway playing outfield at the Cataldo house as we played basefall with those rubber balls... more of that story later. Do you guys remember Freeway playing ball with us in Cataldo?

I will always remember Penda's stupendous reactions upon our return home. His excitement makes me feel missed like nothing else.
Two things about Freeway that I remember the most were the way he'd bound through the snow like a deer when he'd chase snowballs and the way he'd hang on to those longish rubber pads. He'd grunt and kinda growl as you tugged on it and we could actually spin around and he'd just hang on, spinning several feet off the ground.
Of all the great pets we've had (hell, that anyone has had), Freeway is the best. Damn that was a good dog.
remember Tips ( I almost wrote Tiggs) laying on the burn pile - sort of like the god of all cats sitting on the about to be pyre (is that how you spell burning death bed?)
I don't really remember Freeway's actions that much. When I think about those dogs...I always remember Ramona when she would come up and put her head under your arm if you were sitting down...
I kinda remember one of the dogs running into the glass slider door at the house in Minnesota though...
Remember Tipps sleeping in the Cataldo bathroom sink?
My best Schnauzer memory is when J-rod gave his very best friend in the entire world specific instructions to make sure that no one touched his food while he was away getting something to drink (or bathroom break, I don't remember exactly where he went).
The food sat right next to this dear friend on the porch of the cataldo house. As instructed no one touched the food even when Ramona decided to walk up the stairs sniff the freshly BBq'd burger and help herself to the top of the bun.
J-rod was a tad upset when he returned to see that his food was not exactly as he left it.
Thinking back on it, had he not been so demanding when he left to make sure that no one touched his food we probably would have chased Ramona off. As it turned out the BF and I had the same thoughts as we watched her sniff and snatch. We made sure that no one touched the food, just as requested.
My fury only increased at the sight of the best friend trying to withhold laughter with a mouth full of burger as I shook his head by both ears.
VIGOROUSLY shook his head, I might add.
Yea I was going to add that part as well but thought otherwise, I also remember the war cry you let out as you shook his head.
Ahhh, it was pretty damn funny though.
